Studio Walls EP demo

book / digital publication 32-page PDF

from the back of the book:

Studio Walls EP (demo) presents a trio(+) of artworks grounded in the physical and symbolic walls on the rising-sun side of the artist’s studio (movable walls the artist designed and built) — documenting/recording a distinct period/arc in the life of that space. Structured like a musical release, this “EP” unfolds as three “tracks” in seven parts:
   “Welcome Winter (corner panel)”
   “Studio Walls Trio (’17–’24)”
“Constellation Duet (Not Yet Titled (Late 2024))”
Bonus content includes an essay by longtime friend of the artist Amy Thami,
who “writes and composes” her essay in a format that echos the artist’s own predilection for autonomous modular elements that interact and interrelate. She provides a conceptual reflection on this period in the artist’s oeuvre in which Phillips’ practice continues to transform referents from art history, media, and the internet.
This EP continues a series of PDF publications by the artist — researching internal world(s) as a way to read external ones – highlighting key themes such as the confounding of quotidian and epic, whimsical depth, the posthuman & anthropocene, and the cultivation of personal mythologies, and their place in art history.
